Description
India’s maternal and infant mortality rates remain above the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) targets, with women and children living in rural areas and urban slums suffering disproportionately. The Government of India is making considerable investments in this area and various innovative approaches and initiatives are evolving to bolster the implementation of the government’s Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCH+A) strategy for improved maternal and child health care. Amongst them, leveraging mobile phone technology (mHealth) to reach out to the masses to change their health‐seeking behavior is proving to be a highly cost effective and game changing proposition.
